A GREAT name in the audio/video industry - Dutch engineer, COORDINATOR of the Philips "compact-cassette" project (type EL1903) - the most widespread audio cassette model; director of the Philips plant in Hasselt-Belgium (where the cassette was designed), director of the Philips audio division, then of the video division; essential contributions to the use of laser in audio and video, materialized in the creation of the VLP video disc (1977-8) and the CD (1979, marketed 1982). A simple but solid motto of his activity was "smaller is better", referring to the comparison between the RCA Sound Tape Cartridge box (made in US-1958 - see attached) and his project. His idea proved to be revolutionary, with subsequent miniaturization in the audio domain (and beyond) with multiple advantages ( size, consumption, costs, etc.). At least a brief presentation of his reign should not be missing from this museum site (sorry late post), and fans are invited to find more information on various sources.
The Philips EL3300 cassette player - the first user of his cassette - was made by his collaborators, prof. Dr. Johannes J.M.Schoenmakers and Eng. Peter van der Sluijs and was the model for first cassette-recorders of the great producers like Sony, Matsushita, Telefunken, Blaupunkt, Zenith, General Electric, Ampex, etc

THANKS A LOT Mr. ENG. OTTENS, SCHOENMAKERS, SLUIJS – you made more beautiful our lives !
