Formatul U-matic , lansat de Sony in 1971 (cf. paginii oficiale Sony) a fost initial pt video profesional, dar la inceputul anilor 80 s-a folosit si in audio, pentru inregistarea benzilor " master" necesare realizarii CD-urilor. Desi este cea mai mare caseta digitala ca dimensiuni, nu este si cea mai lunga dpdv al duratei (max 60 min la viteza ed 9,5 cm/sec). S-a folosit pe aparatele profesionale Sony PCM-1600, 1610, 1630, dar nu numai. Dim: 220 x 138 x 30 mm ; banda are latimea de 19,05 mm; numele U-matic vine de la traiectoria benzii - in forma literei " U" in interiorul aparatului, care se infasoara/inconjoara cilindrul rotativ pe care sunt montate cele 2 capete (ca la video). Here is a U-matic Digital Mastering Audio cassette, used in early 80s for to create the master tapes from which CDs would be remastered. (Innitially, U-matic format, launched by Sony in 1971-acc. Sony official info, was used in profi video). Dims: 22- x 138 x 30 mm ; tape width:19,05 mm; tape speed: 9,5 cm/sec; max. 60 mins. recording. The "U-matic" name comes from the strip trajectory - in the form of letter "U" inside the machine, which wraps / loads the rotating cylinder on which the two heads are mounted .
